We have set up PS3 Linux World to help everyone set up Linux on their PS3’s firstly I will be doing a complete guide to Ubuntu as this is the one I use, although things will be similar with other versions.
I will show you how to set it up to play all media types including Blu-Ray movies, set up the network if you have to, install applications like vlc or whatever is available that you want, and I will even show you how to tweek it to make it run better.
Once I have poted everything I want to on Ubuntu I will move on to Yellow Dog Linux and from there who knows.
And once I have a few versions explained on here maybe we can help you decide which os to install on ps3.
Don’t forget you can always ask questions in the comments and I will get working on them for you.

Ive heard there are ways to use the GPU’s processing power on PS3 Linux.
I’ve found these links
http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?t=8364&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=211
http://www.ps3-hacks.com/2007/12/03/using-the-ps3-gpu-in-linux/
but i dont seem to understand any of it
is it possible if you can take a look at it?
I will take a look at it but i heard Sony blocked the GPU off in and update, I also heard that they have opened the gpu memory up so you can use it as a swap file like some fast extra ram.
I’ve had a PS3 for awhile now, but I play with my 360 more. I’ve been looking to “get more out of” my PS3. So before I messed with my PS3, I was wondering what the point of installing a different OS was. What will I be able to do?
I could help out with the PS3linux world site if you need it? Drop me a line on my email address, I’d love to be part of this.

Hi I see you need some experienced linux users to write tutorials in the such. Please email me if you still need some as I would be glad to help. My most used distro’s are Damn Small Linux, Gentoo, and Ubuntu. Please email me at your leisure
Hey, just a quick question, could I revert back to the XMB if I didn’t like Linux?
Yes, you can. As a matter of fact you have to go back to the XMB whenever you want to play any actual PS3 games.
